Advertising for my shop in Vienna: what do €100, €300, €1,000 buy?

What does €100, €300 or €1,000 buy for a small business in Vienna? Three worked examples with real screen prices, discount and advertising tax.

In short: €100 buys two weeks on one Donaupier screen in Vienna at a 25% ad share, for €79.38. €300 buys two weeks on all 10 Donaupier screens, for €232.72. €1,000 combines Donaupier with Mariahilfer Straße and the 1st district, for €923.12. All amounts include Austria's 5% advertising tax, plus VAT, at adyoutiser prices as of 28 September 2026.

Most advertising offers start with "price on request". Then a PDF arrives, pretending to be a media plan. This is the reverse: three budgets, three calculations, every line traceable. You can redo any of them in the booking flow before you pay.

How is the price of a screen calculated?

On adyoutiser every screen has a day price that depends on your ad share. The ad share is the part of the airtime that is yours: 10% means 6 seconds of every minute show your ad. Double the share, double the price. Multiply by the number of days. That is the whole formula.

Then two lines are added and one is taken off:

  • Volume discount: from €100 net we take off 3% automatically. That is today's setting; it shows at checkout.
  • Advertising tax (Werbeabgabe): Austria charges 5% on the net amount. We list it and pay it.
  • VAT: added at the end, depending on your business.

Below, "budget" means the amount including advertising tax, excluding VAT. That is how checkout shows it too.

Which screens can you choose from?

Vienna has 16 bookable screens in 5 districts today. Two groups are enough for these examples:

GroupWhereEntry price per day, netWhat you get
Donaupier, 10 screensHandelskai, 2nd district€1.44 to €2.16 at 10%our player, every play counted
Mariahilfer Straße 1256th district€11.97 for 1 of 12 slotsoperator's system, 24 h lead
Plankengasse 11st district€11.97 for 1 of 12 slotsoperator's system, 24 h lead

Why the gap is so large: Mariahilfer Straße is Vienna's main shopping street and Plankengasse is in the 1st district. Both screens are run by an operator who releases 4 of the 12 slots in their loop to us. The Donaupier screens hang at the Danube boat piers on Handelskai and run on our player. There we count every play; on operator screens you get the confirmed start date and an estimated reach.

All 16 screens with photo, address and price are on the map.

What does €100 buy?

Two weeks on one well-placed screen. Two options, depending on whether frequency or location matters more to you.

Option A: one Donaupier screen, often

  • Pier 05 on Handelskai, 25% share
  • €5.40 per day, 14 days
  • 14 × €5.40 = €75.60 net, under €100 so no discount
  • plus 5% advertising tax €3.78
  • Total: €79.38, plus VAT
  • On paper 2,160 plays a day with a 10-second creative. Each is counted.

Option B: Mariahilfer Straße, one week

  • 1 of 12 slots on the Mariahilfer Straße 125 screen
  • €11.97 per day, 7 days
  • 7 × €11.97 = €83.79 net
  • plus 5% advertising tax €4.19
  • Total: €87.98, plus VAT

Shop in the 2nd district? Take A. In the 6th or 7th? Take B.

What does €300 buy?

At €300 one screen becomes a network. People start seeing your ad in more than one place.

All 10 Donaupier screens, two weeks

  • 10% share on Pier 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 and 12
  • €16.32 per day together, 14 days
  • 14 × €16.32 = €228.48
  • minus 3% volume discount €6.85 = €221.63 net
  • plus 5% advertising tax €11.09
  • Total: €232.72, plus VAT

Alternative: Mariahilfer Straße and the 1st district

  • 1 slot each on Mariahilfer Straße 125 and Plankengasse 1
  • €23.94 per day together, 12 days
  • 12 × €23.94 = €287.28
  • minus 3% volume discount €8.62 = €278.66 net
  • plus 5% advertising tax €13.94
  • Total: €292.60, plus VAT

What does €1,000 buy?

Three districts at once, with a higher share.

  • 25% share on all 10 Donaupier screens, €40.80 per day together
  • plus 1 slot each on Mariahilfer Straße 125 and Plankengasse 1, €23.94 per day together
  • 14 days
  • 14 × €64.74 = €906.36
  • minus 3% volume discount €27.19 = €879.17 net
  • plus 5% advertising tax €43.95
  • Total: €923.12, plus VAT

That stays under €1,000 on purpose. The rest is your buffer for an extra week or a second creative.

What is the smallest you can spend?

€2. That is the minimum order, and one day is enough. One day on Pier 05 at the smallest 10% share costs €2.16 net, €2.27 with advertising tax. It is not a plan, but it is an honest test: you see in your dashboard how often your ad ran before you spend more.

Where should your budget go?

Three rules that hold for every budget:

  1. Near beats far. One screen your customers walk past beats five they never see. Check the map first, the price second.
  2. Frequency beats duration. Two weeks at 25% often beat eight weeks at 10%. Seen once, forgotten. Seen several times, the name sticks.
  3. Have a reason. An opening, an offer, a new season. A checklist for the most common one: promoting a new shop or café opening in Vienna.

More on budget versus duration: how much campaign budget is enough? Prefer a ready-made bundle? See the packages.

How do you book one of these examples?

Four steps, none of them a phone call.

  1. Pick dates. Start today at the earliest. One day is enough.
  2. Pick screens. On the map or in the list. Set the share per screen; the price updates live.
  3. Upload your creative. Image or video in the screen's format. None yet? Skip and add it later.
  4. Check and pay. Subtotal, discount, advertising tax and VAT are separate lines. Pay online.

AI then checks your creative. Most go straight through; the rest go to a human. On player screens your ad runs a few minutes after approval, on operator screens with a 24-hour lead time. Want to play with numbers first? Use the ad calculator.

What does the money not buy?

No agency taking a cut. No minimum quarter. No meeting before you see a price. And, honestly, no guaranteed sales. A screen makes your shop visible. Whether people walk in depends on your offer, so a creative with a concrete reason to come beats a logo.
