Promoting your Martini goose: goose season 2026 for Vienna restaurants

St. Martin's Day falls on Wednesday, 11 November 2026. When to promote your goose, what belongs on the creative and how to tell whether the screen brings bookings.

In short: St. Martin's Day falls on Wednesday, 11 November 2026. Start promoting your Martini goose at the end of October, about two weeks ahead, and keep it running until the weekend of 14/15 November. You can book screen advertising in Vienna online with adyoutiser from a €2 minimum order, and one day is enough. Screens are available in Vienna's 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th districts.

Goose season means every Viennese restaurant with Gansl on the menu is competing for the same tables at the same time. If you put a sign outside on 10 November, you are too late. This guide covers when to advertise, what belongs on the creative, what you may say about where the goose comes from, and how to tell whether it brought in bookings.

When is St. Martin's Day 2026 and when should you advertise?

St. Martin's Day is Wednesday, 11 November 2026. Start two weeks before. Anyone who wants a table on the weekend around Martini books ahead, not on the day.

Plan in three waves:

Period 2026GoalMessage
26 October to 6 NovemberBookings for Martini weekDish, price, "Book now"
7 to 15 NovemberRemaining tables, last-minute guests"Still free on …", lunch menu
16 to 28 NovemberGoose until season endTakeaway, goose on the lunch menu

The first Sunday of Advent is 29 November. From then on it is about Christmas parties. How to promote that wave is covered in Christmas party and New Year's Eve advertising for restaurants. You can book both campaigns back to back: same account, new creative.

What belongs on a goose creative?

Three things: the dish, the price and the way to book. Everything else is decoration.

A screen shows your creative for a few seconds. Nobody reads a menu there. Stick to this order:

  1. "Gansl" in big letters. In Vienna, the word alone says it all.
  2. Price. A concrete amount for the portion or the set menu. It must match your menu.
  3. When. "From 2 November" or "Until 28 November". A date turns a picture into an invitation.
  4. Where. Restaurant name and street. A guest needs to know whether you are around the corner.
  5. How to book. A QR code to your booking page or a short phone number.

Leave out long lists of side dishes, three photos side by side and small type. One good photo of the plate beats any graphic. Formats and resolutions per screen are listed in creative specs.

Every creative is reviewed before it starts, first by AI and, if in doubt, by a person. A goose plate with a price is straightforward.

Can you advertise "Austrian goose"?

Yes, if it is true and you can prove it. A false claim about origin is misleading advertising, and competitors can sue under Austria's Unfair Competition Act (UWG).

Origin is a good argument for your creative, as long as you can back it up. Three rules:

  • Only say what your delivery note says. "Goose from Burgenland" means you have the supplier invoice that shows it.
  • Don't generalise. If only some of your geese come from Austria, don't put that on the whole offer.
  • Don't invent labels. Only show a quality seal if your supplier is certified for it.

On the legal duty: the Austrian regulation on origin labelling in community catering (BGBl. II No. 65/2023) requires origin information for meat, milk and eggs in large kitchens that serve a stable group, such as staff canteens. A restaurant with changing guests is not covered. If you state the origin voluntarily, it still has to be true.

Which screens suit a restaurant serving goose?

The ones your guests walk past. For a restaurant, one screen in your district is worth more than five on the other side of town.

There are 16 bookable screens in Vienna today:

DistrictLocationType
1stPlankengasse 1Operator screen
1stFranz-Josefs-Kai, near SchwedenplatzPlayer screen
2ndDanube pier at Handelskai, 10 screensPlayer screens
2ndGroße Mohrengasse 10Player screen
6thMariahilfer Straße 125Operator screen
8thJosefstädter Straße 99Operator screen
9thJulius-Tandler-Platz 10, Franz-Josefs-BahnhofOperator screen

The difference matters for planning:

  • Player screens run on our player. Every play is counted and shown in your dashboard.
  • Operator screens run on the operator's system. We hold 4 of 12 slots in their loop, with 24 hours' lead time. Don't book them the evening before Martini.

All locations with photo and address are on the map. If your restaurant is in another district, choose a screen on your regulars' route, for example at the station or on the shopping street they take towards you. If there is no such screen, your money is better spent elsewhere.

How much budget do you need for goose season?

Less than you think. The minimum order is €2, and one day is enough. The price depends on the screen, your share of airtime and the number of days.

How the maths works:

  • Share of airtime: You buy a share of the loop. 10% means 6 seconds per minute, 25% means 15 seconds per minute. Double the share, double the price.
  • Days: daily price times number of days.
  • Advertising tax: in Austria, 5% on the net amount. We show it and pay it over.
  • VAT: added at the end.

For goose season, frequency beats duration. Two weeks with a higher share before Martini do more than six weeks at the smallest share, because you want to reach the same people several times before the date. Three fully calculated budgets with real screen prices are in Advertising for my shop in Vienna: €100, €300, €1,000. Current daily prices are shown live in the booking step, with an overview under DOOH advertising costs.

How do you measure whether the screen brings bookings?

Give the screen its own route to booking. Then you count bookings instead of guessing.

Two simple options:

  • Dedicated QR code: add a UTM parameter to the link on your creative, for example utm_source=screen&utm_campaign=gansl2026. Your website analytics will show how many people came via the screen. A guide is in UTM and QR tracking.
  • Code word: "Say 'Martini' when you book and get the soup on us." Your team keeps a tally. This also works for guests who phone.

What you get from us: counted plays per day on player screens. Contacts, meaning how many people may have seen the creative, are modelled and marked with "~". There is no reach guarantee, and we don't pretend otherwise. Whether people book is down to your offer.

How do you book the goose campaign?

Four steps, no call, no contract.

  1. Pick the period. For example 26 October to 15 November.
  2. Pick screens and share. On the map or in the list. The daily price updates instantly.
  3. Upload your creative. Image or video in the screen's format.
  4. Review and pay. Subtotal, advertising tax and VAT are shown as separate lines.

Your creative is then reviewed, and the campaign starts in the period you chose. If you'd rather start with a ready-made bundle, see the packages.

Frequently asked questions

When is St. Martin's Day 2026?

Wednesday, 11 November 2026. The weekends before (7/8 November) and after (14/15 November) are the obvious dates for a goose dinner.

How early should I promote my goose?

About two weeks before Martini, so from the end of October. Allow 24 hours' lead time for operator screens.

Can I book screen advertising for just one day?

Yes. The minimum order is €2, and one day is enough. There is no minimum term.

Do restaurants have to state where the goose comes from?

The mandatory origin labelling under BGBl. II No. 65/2023 applies to large kitchens such as staff canteens, not to a restaurant with changing guests. If you state the origin anyway, it must be true and verifiable.

Which Vienna districts can I advertise in?

The 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th districts, with 16 bookable screens. All locations are on the map, more answers in the FAQ.
