Advertising in Bratislava during Advent: reaching Slovak customers

How to reach Slovak customers during Advent with the 3 screens at Bratislava's passenger port: language rule, timing, plays and measurement.

In short: If you want to reach Slovak customers before Christmas, book the 3 screens at the passenger port in Bratislava (HUMA 6, Rázusovo nábrežie) for the Advent weeks starting Sunday, 29 November 2026. Write the ad in Slovak first; German or English may follow below with the same content. These screens carry no Austrian advertising tax. The minimum order is €2, and one day is enough.

Many Austrian shops have regular Slovak customers but only advertise where the shop is. Yet the decision to make the trip is often made at home: on a walk along the Danube, on the way into the old town, while planning the next day out. This article shows how to run an Advent ad in Bratislava, what has to be on it language-wise, and how to measure whether it works.

Why advertise in Bratislava if your shop is in Austria?

Because you reach your Slovak customers where they plan the trip, not only once they are already at your door. An ad in Bratislava is the invitation; an ad in Vienna is the reminder.

It is worth it if at least one of these applies:

  • You regularly hear Slovak in your shop.
  • You sell something people happily travel for: fashion, gifts, delicatessen, wellness, a restaurant that takes reservations.
  • You have a website or landing page in Slovak, or you can build one in an hour.

If none of this applies, spend your Advent budget in Vienna instead. How, is covered in Christmas shopping 2026: advertising in Vienna.

Where are the screens in Bratislava?

All 3 screens hang at the entrances of HUMA 6 in the passenger port (Osobný prístav) on Rázusovo nábrežie, 811 02 Bratislava. That is the Danube bank right next to the old town.

HUMA 6, middle entrancePortrait, 1080 × 192024 hours, 7 daysno
HUMA 6, right entrancePortrait, 1080 × 192024 hours, 7 daysno

Who walks past: people moving between the Danube and the old town, weekend visitors on the riverside promenade and, during the boat season, passengers of Twin City Liner and Danube cruises. The old-town Christmas markets are a few minutes' walk away.

All three screens run on our player. That means every play is counted individually, and your ad is live a few minutes after approval. Photos and location are on the map and under DOOH in Bratislava.

The Vienna counterpart is the screen on Franz-Josefs-Kai near Schwedenplatz, where the Twin City Liner docks in Vienna. If you want both ends of the route, book both in the same cart.

What has to be in Slovak?

The Slovak text comes first. A German or English text may follow if it says the same thing. That is how the Slovak Ministry of Culture describes it in its guidance on the State Language Act for advertising.

For a screen ad, that means:

  1. Headline in Slovak. Large, at the top, read first.
  2. German or English only as the second line. Same message, no more, no less. A German line that promises something different from the Slovak one is no longer a translation.
  3. Your brand name stays. Your company name does not need translating.
  4. Prices in euros. Both countries use the euro. No conversion, no footnote.
  5. Get it translated. One sentence from a native speaker costs less than an ad people in Bratislava laugh at.

An example of a 10-second portrait ad:

  • Top: Vianočné darčeky z Viedne
  • Below: Christmas gifts from Vienna
  • Middle: product photo, logo
  • Bottom: Darček ku každému nákupu s kódom BA26 / A gift with every purchase, code BA26
  • Corner: QR code to your Slovak page

More on the legal differences between the two countries is in Slovak advertising rules vs. Austria. Technical details on resolution and file format are in the creative specs.

When should you run during Advent?

Start no later than the first Sunday of Advent, 29 November 2026, and run at least until the fourth Sunday of Advent, 20 December. People planning a weekend trip usually decide a few days ahead.

Two sensible options:

  • Continuous: 29 November to 20 December, 22 days. Good if you want to be visible throughout Advent.
  • Weekends only: Friday to Sunday on four Advent weekends. Good if your budget is small and your customers mostly come at weekends.

Allow one day of buffer for the ad review. The booking window for the Bratislava screens is currently open until 31 December 2026.

How often does your ad play?

At a 10 % ad share you own 6 seconds of every minute. A 10-second ad therefore plays 864 times per screen per day on paper, because the screens run around the clock.

Ad shareSeconds per minutePlays per screen per dayon all 3 screens
10 %68642,592
25 %152,1606,480

These are calculated values. What actually played, you see in the dashboard, play by play. How many people saw the ad, on the other hand, is modelled, not counted. There is no reach guarantee, and anyone who offers one should explain how they measure it.

What does advertising in Bratislava cost?

The daily price depends on the screen and the ad share; double the share means double the price. You see it per screen on the map and in the booking step, where it updates live as you adjust.

Three things are fixed:

  • Minimum order €2. One day on one screen is enough for a test.
  • No Austrian advertising tax on the Bratislava screens. The 5 % advertising tax applies to advertising in Austria. If you add Vienna, it appears as a separate line in checkout for the Vienna part only.
  • VAT is added at the end, depending on your company.

How prices are put together in general is explained under DOOH advertising: costs.

How do you measure whether customers come from Bratislava?

Give the Bratislava ad its own voucher code and its own QR link. Then you count at the till and in your web analytics what can only come from that ad.

  • Own code: for example BA26, only on the Bratislava ad. Note every redemption at the till.
  • Own QR link with UTM parameters: for instance utm_source=adyoutiser&utm_campaign=advent-bratislava. How it works is in UTM and QR tracking for screen ads.
  • Slovak landing page: whoever scans the QR code lands on a Slovak page, not your German homepage.
  • Compare with Vienna: if a Vienna ad runs in parallel, give it a different code. That shows you which side of the border works.

More on combining both cities is in Cross-border campaigns Vienna and Bratislava.

How do you book the screens?

Four steps, no call:

  1. Choose dates. For example 29 November to 20 December.
  2. Choose screens. Zoom the map to Bratislava, select the three HUMA 6 screens, set the ad share.
  3. Upload your ad. Portrait, 1080 × 1920, Slovak text first.
  4. Review and pay. Subtotal, discount, levies and VAT appear as separate lines. Payment is online.

Before the start, AI and a person review your ad. After that it runs on the three screens within a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Does advertising in Bratislava have to be in Slovak?

Yes, the Slovak text has to come first. A second language may follow if it says the same thing. Your brand name stays untranslated.

Is there advertising tax in Bratislava?

The Austrian advertising tax of 5 % does not apply to the Bratislava screens. If you combine them with Vienna screens, it is charged only on the Vienna part and shown in checkout.

Can I combine Vienna and Bratislava in one booking?

Yes. You pick screens from both cities in the same cart and pay once. You can design the ad differently per city, for example Slovak for Bratislava and German for Vienna.

What format do the Bratislava screens need?

Portrait at 1080 × 1920 pixels. Image or video, both work. Plan the text so it can be read in 10 seconds.

How short-notice can I book?

The earliest start is today. After the ad review, your ad runs on the Bratislava screens within a few minutes.

If you want your Slovak customers back during Advent, choose your dates and screens in the booking step now.
