Which Hardware Do You Need for Your Ad Screen? 2026 Hardware Guide

What you take away in 30 seconds: You need (1) a 32-55 inch display, (2) a Fire TV Stick 4K or Linux mini-PC as player, (3) a secure wall mount, (4) stable Wi-Fi. Total cost: €350-900. ROI: 4-9 months at typical fill rate. We do not sell hardware — you buy it yourself and own it.

1. Display: 32-55 inches, regular smart TV is fine

You do NOT need a €2,000 „professional digital signage display". A regular smart TV works as long as it has:

• Size: 32" (counter), 43" (standard café), 55" (large room or shop window)
• Resolution: at least Full HD, ideally 4K
• Brightness: at least 300 cd/m² (400+ for shop windows)
• HDMI: at least 2 ports
• 24/7-rated if running more than 12 hours/day

2. Player: Fire TV Stick 4K or Linux mini-PC

Option A: Fire TV Stick 4K (Eurobetrag nicht öffentlich beziffert) — Cheap, 3 W, sideloaded APK. Wi-Fi only.

Option B: Linux mini-PC (~€150-250) — Intel NUC or Beelink. Python + Qt service. 10-15 W, Ethernet, more stable.

Fire TV Stick 4K covers 95% of locations. Linux mini-PC for high traffic or outdoor spots.

3. Wall mount: do not skimp

• Fixed mount: ~€30
• Tilt + swivel: ~€60 (best for cafés)
• Full-motion arm: ~€120

Match VESA size to your TV (200×200, 300×300, 400×400). Anchor in concrete or masonry, NOT drywall.

4. Internet: stability over speed

• Download: 10 Mbit/s
• Upload: 1 Mbit/s
• Latency: under 100 ms
• Packet loss: under 0.1%

Wi-Fi is ok but not ideal. Consider mesh repeater near the player or run Ethernet. We had 3 locations where bad Wi-Fi caused 30-60 minutes daily downtime — direct revenue loss.
